Job Description
To maintain, diagnose, repair, install and improve mechanical plant and equipment used in the paper mill and converting operation.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Grade 12 and N3 Mechanical Engineering
- Recognised fitter, fitter-and-turner or millwright trade test
- Three to five years’ post-trade experience
- Paper, pulp, packaging, FMCG or continuous-process experience
- Experience with pumps, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors and rotating equipment
- Precision alignment and measuring-instrument competence
- Welding, rigging and machining skills advantageous
- PLC and electrical fault-finding advantageous for a millwright
- Ability to work breakdown call-outs, shifts and shutdowns
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns
- Maintain bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes and drives
- Work on pumps, valves, conveyors, rolls, cylinders and hydraulic systems
- Maintain pneumatics and compressed-air systems
- Conduct precision alignment, levelling and balancing
- Replace and align paper-machine and converting rolls
- Perform planned and condition-based maintenance
- Interpret engineering drawings and equipment manuals
- Participate in shutdowns, installations and commissioning
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions
- Maintain maintenance records and spare-parts information
- Support machine reliability, uptime and safety improvements
- Apply lockout, permit-to-work and isolation requirements
